Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley
Through
volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials,
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley builds and
rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of
the homeowner (partner) families. After a partner family completes 500
sweat equity hours, a Habitat home is sold to the family for no profit,
financed with affordable, 0%-interest loans. The
homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving Fund
for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
Habitat
for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley has been serving the
community since 1991, working in concert with volunteers, donors, and
partner families to build decent, affordable homes in Salem, Keizer,
Polk County and the greater Stayton area. To date, our affiliate has
built more than 75 homes, housing more than 300 individuals- including
over 240 children.

Our Mission
Putting faith into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build decent homes and communities.
Our Values
- Diversity and Inclusiveness - We believe that all people deserve a simple, decent place to live, and have something to contribute in building homes and helping our communities. We welcome people from all walks of life to partner with our program.
- Homeownership - We believe in the power of homeownership to affirm dignity, encourage hope, and transform lives. A healthy, stable home improves the quality of life, both for the family and the community.
- Families as Partners - We believe that dignity is promoted not simply by living in an adequate house, but by fully contributing to the process of building and buying that home and helping others acquire adequate shelter.
- Volunteerism - We believe in the volunteer spirit and are committed to offering rewarding volunteer experiences.
- Stewardship - We are committed to excellence, to efficient use of our financial, environmental, and human resources, and we are accountable to our funders, volunteers, and family partners.
- Collaboration - We strive to create strong, productive partnerships with organizations and area housing providers toward our common goal of eliminating substandard housing.
Our Community Impact
- Broadening Homeownership Opportunities - Habitat for Humanity creates lasting, affordable homeownership by partnering with families who have a demonstrated need for stable, affordable housing but do not qualify for a traditional mortgage. Each family contributes 500 hours of "sweat equity" (volunteer time) towards the completion of other people's homes and their own. Habitat then sells the home to the family using a zero-interest loan.
- Developing Community Partnerships - We empower volunteers and community organizations to make a tangible, lasting difference in our community. Many volunteers participate through Habitat for Humanity's partnerships with faith communities, businesses, and service clubs.
- Facilitating Civic Improvement - The homes we build are tax-bearing properties. Habitat for Humanity homeowners, whose modest incomes previously left them vulnerable to frequent moves, have the opportunity to grow roots and focus on other areas of their lives such as education, professional development, and volunteerism.
- Providing a Tangible Christian Witness - Habitat for Humanity "puts faith into action" by working face-to-face in 100 countries around the world. In a world riddled with violence, Habitat for Humanity volunteers give their time and resources towards building homes and hope worldwide. Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley tithes all undesignated funds to assist with international house-building.
Anti-Discrimination Policy
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley expects all staff, board and volunteers to behave in a way that reinforces the mission and founding principles of the organization.
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley, therefore, does not discriminate against any employee, volunteer, partner family or applicant for a Habitat home on the basis of race, color, cultural heritage, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, physical condition, political affiliation, source of income, veteran status or any other status protected under local, state, or federal law. This policy extends to all personnel decisions, terms and conditions of employment, vendor contracts and provision of services. Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley does not tolerate harassment for any reason. Respect for the dignity of others shall be the guiding principle for our relations with each other.
